After The Metropolitan Opera had been shuttered for over a year, the renowned institution reopened with the first work in its 138 years written by a Black composer—Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up In My Bones. The seven-time Grammy Award winner now presents his masterwork in a concert production that features excerpts from the opera performed by the composer, an ensemble of string and jazz musicians, and two guest singers.
