You are invited for a special conversation with Dr. Heather Marie Stur, author of Beyond Combat: Women and Gender in the Vietnam War Era, who will be speaking in conversation with LBJ Presidential Library Director Dr. Kyle Longley.

Dr. Stur will look at the more than 66,000 women who served in Vietnam in either military or civilian capacities. The largest group were nurses, but others included Women’s Air Corps members who served as clerks and air traffic controllers. Others held various capacities such as “donut dollies” in the Red Cross as well as other aid workers and journalists. Dr. Stur will focus on their contributions as well as the many challenges they faced in the war zone at the time to provide a well-developed understanding of the experience of women during the Vietnam War.
