    About

    Operating since 1938 and considered a beloved part of Austin’s history, the Austin Motel is set amidst the original midcentury architecture and is considered the heart of South Congress. Renovated by Bunkhouse Hotels, the motel's eclectic vibe (and sign) were preserved, while Bunkhouse incorporated their signature design touch inspired by main periods in its history—refreshing the 41 rooms with a casual, yet playful, color scheme; rejuvenating the public spaces and adding a renegade-style retail shop in the lobby; and constructing a Pool Bar & deck around the infamous 50's-style outdoor pool.

    The newest addition to the property, an old school cocktail oasis, Rocky’s Bar, opened in fall 2024 for retro cocktails and shave ice from a walk-up window in the courtyard. The guest rooms feature custom vinyl tufted beds and golden wood desks designed by Bunkhouse, alongside spirited touches such as funky wallpaper, classic push-button phones and vintage silkscreened music posters, while the kidney-shaped pool boasts midcentury furniture among the classic red and white striped umbrellas, where seasonal programing such as movie screenings and live music takes places throughout the year. Joann's Fine Foods, the first-ever partnership between Austin powerhouses Bunkhouse Hotels and McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality, offers a menu of reimagined diner classics with a Mexican influence, served all day.
