For True Italian, Austin knows it's all About Carmelo's

Maybe it's the personable top-notch service - Carmelo's always treats guests like family - or the superb Italian dishes - many are built from proudly passed-down family recipes - or the feeling of traveling to Italy without having to dig out your passport. Whatever the reason, Carmelo's Ristorante Italiano is one of those Austin institutions that locals and visitors can't get enough of.

The fine dining, but noticeably down-to-earth, Italian restaurant has been bringing families and friends together for anniversaries, birthdays, first dates and just a Wednesday night craving for delicious Italian cuisine since 1985.

Founder Carmelo Mauro was born in Taormina, Sicily, working his way up through the hotel and restaurant industries before moving to Houston in 1978 with his wife, Hilary, and opening their first Carmelo's Ristorante on Memorial Drive. Austinites are thankful the Mauros opened a second location in the local "Old Depot Hotel," the longest standing depot in the state of Texas.

Both locations offer the extraordinary culinary mastery Carmelo's is known for, plus a wide selection of traditional meat, seafood, and pasta dishes, as well as modern versions with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. A true mark of excellence, both restaurants hold the Seal of Ospitalità Italiana from the Italian Government guaranteeing the authenticity of their cuisine.

A roaming accordionist brings Old World Italy to the softly lit, authentically designed dining areas and Carmelo's Signature Dishes include Ossobuco, Tegoline con Pollo, Red Snapper Mango, Oysters with a champagne reduction, Steak Diane and Fettuccine Carbonara. See Carmelo's tantalizing menu here.

From help choosing the perfect wine to complement your dish, to bringing the pastry cart right to your table so you can ooh and aah over delectable dessert options, the service is impeccable. Carmelo's features a full bar that offers a selection of Italian beers and liquors, along with an extensive wine collection consistently recognized with the "Wine Spectator Award of Excellence." Don't Miss the Carmelo's Wine Dinner on November 13. Check the happenings page on the website for details.

Carmelo's is also the preferred Austin destination for lunch business meetings, private events and celebrations and offers customized menus and several private dining rooms accommodating up to 140 guests.
