Grand opening and ribbon cutting to take place March 17

AUSTIN, TX – The Austin Visitor Center is excited to announce its relocation and grand opening in the beautifully restored historic Phillips Building at 103 E. 5th St.. The move, set for March 8, marks a new chapter for the center after 10 years at its current location. The Phillips Building, originally constructed in 1897, was once home to the Benson Motor Company, an early Austin Studebaker dealership, and is listed as a City of Austin Historic Landmark.

New Amenities & Enhanced Experience

The new location will offer enhanced amenities while maintaining the personalized service visitors expect. The center will feature:

  • Bookable tours departing directly from the Visitor Center

Historical Significance

The Phillips Building, located at 103 E. 5th St., has a rich history in Austin. It previously housed the Benson Motor Company, an early Austin Studebaker, Cadillac, and Oakland automobile dealership owned by W. S. Benson, M. H. Benson, and Chas E. Anderson Jr. The building also served as a garage, providing downtown car storage for well-to-do residents. The Benson Motor Company was in business at this location from approximately 1915 to 1929.

Parking

Parking is available at the Frost Bank Tower Garage, located at 112 E. 4th St. One-hour complimentary validation will be provided to Visitor Center guests.

Grand Opening Celebration & Ribbon Cutting

The Austin Visitor Center will host a grand opening celebration on Monday, March 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Guests will enjoy live music, complimentary beverages and light bites from The County Line, and a commemorative screen-printed tote bag for the first guests through the door. The Grand Opening is invite-only. Media is welcome to attend.
