As part of the film permitting process, all productions must fill out the Austin Police Department Film Application. This application covers weapons and safety notifications for public and private properties by the Austin Police Department.

The Chief of Police or a designee will determine and approve the number of officers and agents that are required for closures and adjacent areas related to filming. When applying for a Right of Way Permit, the City of Austin Office of Special Events (OSE) may request that a production have a police presence on set if a sidewalk or road closure is required.

Please see the Austin Police Department officer/vehicle fee schedule for hiring rates.

For more details on working with the Austin Police Department for filming, please contact APD Special Events at 512-974-5032 or apdspecialevents.gov.

City of Austin Ordinance 20080306-038 states that the City of Austin will provide production crews with up to two police officers - free of charge - for traffic control and other public safety issues, subject to certain requirements and limitations. To qualify the production must meet the criteria to receive incentives.

Any film or television production receiving a benefit under this ordinance shall place a credit on each film or television episode providing: "Thank you to the City of Austin for its generous support of this production. Filmed on location in Austin, Texas, U.S.A.", or a similar statement.
