AUSTIN, TX— Visit Austin is hitting the road today for their sixth annual Airstream tour. The Visit Austin team will depart Austin and hit multiple cities across the U.S. to celebrate and promote all things Austin in Baltimore, MD, Washington, D.C., New York City, NY and Hunter, NY.
“The road trip is a chance for us to take a sample of Austin on the road and show other markets what we have to offer in our city,” said Tom Noonan, President and CEO of Visit Austin. “This series gives us the opportunity promote the culture, music and creativity of our city and bridge together our communities.”
The ATX Airstream Tour begins June 1 in Baltimore, MD for WTMD First Thursday. Visit Austin has partnered with WTMD to highlight upcoming musicians. Visit Austin will also host a tailgate for the Orioles v. Red Sox game at Bicentennial Plaza, in the Inner Harbor. The stop in Baltimore coincides with the Airstream and the Visit Austin team popping up in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Travel Association’s IPW 2017 from June 3 to 7. IPW is the travel industry’s premier international marketplace and the largest generator of travel to the United States.
The next stop on the Airstream Tour will be New York City for Big Apple Barbecue on June 10 and 11. Austin musicians Walker Lukens and Emily Wolfe will perform on Sunday June 11 and Austin BBQ Pit Master, Scott Roberts from Salt Lick will also be representing Austin during the barbecue festival.
Following Big Apple BBQ, Visit Austin heads to Hunter, NY where they are setting up a basecamp lounge in the main campgrounds, with refreshments, WIFI and phone charging stations during the Mountain Jam Music Festival from June 15 to the 18. Walker Lukens performs on June 15 and Emily Wolfe performs on the 16 during the festival. The Visit Austin basecamp lounge will host nightly film screenings from some of the best made in Austin movies. Other Austin based performers at the festival include, Gary Clark Jr., The Band of Heathens and White Denim.
The final stop on the Airstream tour will be back in New York City for NYC Pride from June 22 to the 25. Visit Austin will be hosting a Pride Fest Pre-Party and have a custom float in the PrideFest NYC Parade. Austin-based singer, Gina Chavez, will perform live on the float.
During the tour, Visit Austin will be giving away a trip to Austin. One Winner will win a trip for two that includes a gift card to go towards airline tickets to Austin and two nights at the JW Marriott Austin. They will also win two passes for AO Tours, two passes for a tour of ACL Live at the Moody Theater and other prizes.
