Austin doesn't always top the golf conversation the way other destinations do, but it probably should. The city's golfing roots run deep — legendary instructor Harvey Penick shaped generations of players here, including Masters champions Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite — and the Hill Country terrain makes for dramatic courses. Add year-round playability, a strong lineup of affordable munis, and PGA-endorsed courses, and you've got a serious golf trip hiding in plain sight.

Austin Golf Courses

Falconhead Golf Club

The rambling Falconhead Golf Club was laid out by PGA Tour designers. The public, daily-fee course offers golfers a taste of pro level-quality golfing. Nestled in Texas Hill Country, the course features rolling hills dotted with creeks and ponds. Get in some practice shots on the driving range or grab lunch at Talon’s Bar & Grill.

Roy Kizer Golf Course

The par 71 Roy Kizer Golf Course is Austin’s premier municipal course. Converted from an abandoned wastewater plant, the links-style course is bordered by trees and spread out among 200 forested acres that are home to lakes and wetlands. With ample fairways and five sets of tees, Kizer is a challenge for players of any skill level.

Morris Williams Golf Course

Enjoy views of the Austin city skyline as you play through at the renovated Morris Williams Golf Course. Named for local golfing legend Morris Williams, Jr., the course features elevated, contoured greens and rolling terrain. There’s also a driving range and putting greens for practice, or just relax in a rocking chair on the clubhouse porch.

Lions Municipal Golf Course

Lions Municipal Golf Course (locally called Muny) has been popular since opening as Austin’s first public golf course in 1924. The course is listed on the Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses and is regarded as the first-ever integrated golf course in the south, that taking place during the 1950s. Although the 6,001-yard course is considered short by today’s standards, the small greens and narrow, tree-lined fairways still offer a challenge for even the longest hitters.

Jimmy Clay Golf Course

The Jimmy Clay Golf Course was designed by noted course architect Joe Finger, and opened in 1974. Surrounded by Williamson Creek, the course plays 6,918 yards through traditional tree-lined fairways and elevated open greens.
