Looking to get your dancing shoes on? Austin's unique nightlife experience has a flavor all its own. Since the '80s, when the city's new wave and punk scene lit up the dirt floors of the legendary Liberty Bell venue, Austin's appetite for electronic dance music and club culture has never faded. From upscale multi-level clubs at The Domain to LGBTQ+ dance havens in the Warehouse District to a world-class electronic music warehouse near the airport, there's a dance floor in this city for every mood.
The Rose Room
If you're in the mood for a high-end night with luxury bottle service, head north. In the heart of Rock Rose at The Domain NORTHSIDE, The Rose Room delivers Vegas-style entertainment and live DJs in a premium three-level setting. The venue features state-of-the-art lighting, lasers, special effects, captivating video displays, and aerial performers that bring an immersive, 360-degree experience unlike anything else in town. Table reservations with VIP bottle service are available on the dance floor, mid-mezzanine, and balcony levels.
Elysium
If a typical nightclub isn't your vibe, check out Elysium, the unofficial home of Austin's alternative nightlife scene. For over 20 years, this Red River staple has outlived countless music venues and kept putting on a remarkable range of events — SXSW parties, goth showcases, drag tributes, burlesque nights, industrial dance nights, and its beloved Sunday '80s night. It's one of the few places where you genuinely never know who you'll meet at the bar.
Coconut Club
Located in Austin's LGBTQ+-friendly Warehouse District, Coconut Club is a tropical-themed gay bar with multiple dance floors, sitting areas, fruity drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere that lives up to its reputation. The rooftop connects to sister venues Cuatro Gato and Neon Grotto — the whole complex is known as the Coconut Complex — giving you three experiences to move between in one night. Saturday drag brunch runs every week at 1 pm, no cover.
Cheer Up Charlies
A Red River Cultural District staple and Austin's go-to LGBTQ+ and vegan-friendly bar, Cheer Up Charlies has evolved from a live band venue into a space that balances DJ-driven dance nights with its signature weird-Austin personality. The outdoor patio is perfect for catching live music on warm nights, the vegan cocktail menu is genuinely creative, and the dog-friendly policy makes it feel like a neighborhood bar even when it's packed.
Highland Lounge
Austin's largest gay club, Highland Lounge has been standing three floors tall since 2014. With the biggest dance floor in the Warehouse District, local and touring DJs, drag shows, bottle service, and an Ibiza-inspired sound and light system, it consistently earns its reputation as the area's premier multi-level nightlife destination. Current weekly programming includes drag shows on Fridays, Bossed Up Baddies on Saturdays, Austin Idol on Sundays, and RuPaul's Drag Race viewing parties on Fridays when the season is airing.
Barbarella
A perennial local favorite on Red River Street, Barbarella has been voted Best Place to Dance multiple years running — and for good reason. This video bar keeps the dance floor packed with non-top-40 music selections and themed nights: TuezGayz (the beloved queer dance night hosted by Cupcake since 2010), '80s Night on Fridays, and New Noise on Saturdays. The indoor dance floor is intimate but spacious, and the back patio DJ setup gives you a change of scenery without losing the energy.
Mala Fama
From the same hospitality group behind Mala Vida and Gabriela's, Mala Fama is a sprawling three-story Latin dance club on Sixth Street that packs in reggaeton, perreo, hip-hop, and live banda across multiple floors, each with its own vibe. The rooftop doubles as a performance stage and the fluorescent pink, neon-heavy aesthetic and 18+ door policy make it a natural fit if you're already on Sixth and want to keep the Latin music going.
The Concourse Project
Austin's most ambitious dedicated dance music venue, The Concourse Project is a modular warehouse complex that has earned serious international recognition — ranked #4 club in the USA and #27 in the world by DJ Mag in 2025. The indoor/outdoor setup can be configured in multiple ways depending on the event, and the production quality rivals anything you'd find in a major dance music city. If you're serious about electronic music, this is your destination. Programming runs Thursday through Sunday; most events are 18+.
OK Corral
Don't let the strip-mall exterior fool you — OK Corral consistently draws a packed house and has become one of Austin's most beloved Latin dance clubs. DJs and live bands spin Tejano, cumbia, hip-hop, and old-school Latin hits across a lively dance floor that feels like an Austin institution. It's unpretentious, it's fun, and the crowd knows how to dance.
Kingdom Nightclub
Kingdom has built a devoted following by booking world-class DJs and throwing parties that feel genuinely exclusive without being inaccessible. The club leans heavily into electronic music — house, techno, and genre-defying DJ sets — and its underground-adjacent reputation keeps the crowd engaged and in-the-know. Expect a ticket requirement for most headline events.
Hours and programming change frequently — always check each venue's social media or website before heading out. Most clubs are 21+ unless otherwise noted.
