1. Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail
The crown jewel of Austin running. This 10-mile loop circles Lady Bird Lake in the heart of downtown. It’s mostly flat, shaded, and offers stunning views of the skyline.
The Loops: Use the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge or the Boardwalk for shorter 3, 5, or 7-mile loops.
Pro Tip: Stop by the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue at Auditorium Shores for a classic Austin photo op.
2. Barton Creek Greenbelt
For those who prefer dirt under their feet, the Greenbelt offers over 12 miles of rugged terrain. Expect rocky limestone paths, steep climbs, and—if it’s rained recently—swimming holes to cool off in.
Access: Start at the Zilker Park trailhead near Barton Springs Pool for easy access.
3. Southern Walnut Creek Trail
Located on the East side, this 7-mile paved path is a hidden gem. It winds through quiet, shady woods and is perfect for a long, uninterrupted road run away from the downtown crowds.
4. Shoal Creek Trail
This 3.7-mile trail offers a scenic route from the Austin Central Library downtown up through Pease Park. It’s a mix of paved paths and crushed granite with plenty of shade.
