The French Legation is currently closed for restoration. Once essential historic preservation work is completed and the site re-opened to the public, the French Legation will formally take its place as the newest addition to the now-22 state historic sites operated by the THC.
The oldest standing frame structure in Austin served as the diplomatic outpost of France during the days of the Republic of Texas. The State Historic Site offers guided tours of the historic house (built in 1841) and reconstructed, detached Creole kitchen. The park includes two and a half acres of lush grass, native trees and formal gardens.
