Throughout the year, events honoring Austin’s Black community and history invite visitors and locals alike to experience the city’s rich heritage. From arts and music to food and film, find events that highlight the people and traditions that continue to shape Austin.
Each year, cultural celebrations take center stage across the city. The annual MLK Day March, Festival & Food Drive honors Dr. King’s legacy with a community march and live entertainment. Film lovers can experience new perspectives at the Black Auteur Film Festival, showcasing the work of Black filmmakers and storytellers. In June, the Central Texas Juneteenth Parade & Festival brings people together for a parade and community festival to celebrate Juneteenth. Book lovers can explore Black literature and thought at the Austin African American Book Festival, which welcomes acclaimed authors, scholars and community voices.
