Face Coverings & Social Distancing
Face coverings (over the nose and mouth) are currently required when inside, or when in an outdoor public space when it’s not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from another person not in the same household. Learn More

Hotels & Lodging
Austin hotels can accommodate overnight guests at full capacity. Indoor meetings and other indoor gatherings at hotels may occur at 75 percent capacity. Indoor areas of hotel restaurants, bars and other alcoholic beverage service outlets can operate at up to 75 percent maximum capacity and outdoor areas of restaurants and bars can operate at up to 100 percent capacity.

Austin Convention Center & Palmer Events Center
The Austin Convention Center Department (ACCD) has implemented its Client Resource and Safety Action Plan. Developed in partnership with and under the guidance of local Austin Public Health officials, the Center for Disease Control guidelines, current federal and state guidelines and our Austin Convention Center Department executive team, this plan was commissioned to safeguard the health and well-being of clients, their events, its team members and the local Austin community. The plan outlines ACCD’s enhanced cleaning and sanitization protocols, physical and social distancing measures, requirements of all events, new responsibilities of venue employees and contractors, as well as modifications to food and beverage services. Special Event Venues
Austin event venues are working diligently to welcome you back to their spaces safely. By practicing and following recommended protocols from local health organizations and industry partners. The Austin Center for Events is developing reopening guidelines for special event venues. In the meantime, businesses are utilizing this venue guide for best practices.
Public / Outdoor Spaces
An outdoor gathering in excess of 10 people, other than the exceptions listed below, is prohibited unless the mayor or county judge (in the case of a gathering in an unincorporated area), approves of the gathering.
The following outdoor areas, events, or establishments can operate at 75% occupancy:
- Swimming pools;
- Museums and libraries;
- Zoos, aquariums, natural caverns, and similar facilities;
- Amusements parks; and
- Water parks
Each of the above exceptions require COVID-19 health and safety protocols including face coverings, social distancing and more as outlined in the latest Orders issued by the Austin Mayor and Texas Governor and must comply with Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) health protocols.
Austin’s restaurants (including those found in hotels) are open for dine-in indoor (75 percent occupancy limit) and outdoor patio service (no occupancy limit). They are committed to providing a safe, comfortable and unforgettable experience while ensuring staff and customer health. Many restaurants are participating in a reopening agreement to help guests “Dine With Confidence.”
