Visitor Center Assistant Director

Summary of Position and Duties:

  • Oversee and manage the highest level of customer service to visitors and customers, in person or by phone, at all times.
  • Ability to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision.
  • Execute strategies to increase revenue using customer and market trends.
  • Administer long term planning, project updates, and implementing new processes as needed as well as keeping updated information on these processes.
  • Actively participate in staff and department meetings.
  • Complete all assignments and special projects by the Director of Retail and Visitor Services in a timely manner.
  • Oversee appropriate cash controls, ie. receipts and reconciliations of sale for the Visitor Center additionally reconciling all financial requests for payment.
  • Manage opening and closing procedures including banking, clean standards and securing the building.
  • Assist in education and promotional opportunities to local businesses about our rack wall program and our tour contract program.
  • Track and report all statistical information for monthly reports, both Visitor Services and Heritage Walking Tour reports.
  • Maintain accurate inventory controls including retail receivables and monitoring POS transactions.
  • Manage site operations including building maintenance, safety, and compliance with public codes and ordinances.
  • Provide work schedules and allocate the appropriate number of staff required daily.
  • Communicate with contracted tour companies regularly regarding Visitor Center updates and policy updates.
  • Work closely with all departments at Visit Austin and other partners of Visit Austin, including Austin Convention Center.
  • Oversee and collaborate with staff to problem solve.
  • Have a good understanding of all policies and procedures of Visit Austin and follow them as appropriate.
  • Ability to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision.
  • Weekday and weekend shifts will be required.

Other Responsibilities

  • Have a good understanding of all policies and procedures of Visit Austin and follow them as appropriate.
  • On weekends assigned, manage weekend Visitor Center staff.
  • Represent the Visitor Center in the community as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Key Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

  • Customer service, retail and cash-handling experience.
  • Capability to assist in planning, directing, and evaluating, using manpower, time, funds, and other resources for the accomplishment of long term and short term goals.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff, clients, and public.
  • Management experience.
  • Familiarity of Austin and local businesses.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.

Visitor Center Coordinator (Part Time)

Visit Austin has a part time position available at our Visitor Center. Qualifications:

  • Friendly, outgoing personality
  • Knowledge of the Austin area
  • Ability to multi-task with strong organization and computer skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Communication with the public in person, by phone and by email

Retail/merchandising experience preferred, Spanish speaking a plus. Must work weekends and some holidays. Will work under 30 hours per week.

Visitor Center Retail Manager

Summary of Position and Duties:

Assist Director and Assistant Director with day-to-day operations.

Production and Revenue

  • Execute marketing strategies put in place to increase revenue.
  • Manage the highest level of customer service to visitors and customers in person or by phone at all times
  • Provide support in all aspects of retail procedures; including POS data, receiving, merchandising and inventory controls.
  • As Assistant Buyer, research merchandise and development of Austin products. Make recommendations to the Visitor Services Director.
  • Responsible for managing tour tickets and reservations for all tours.

Budget and Accounting

  • Manage appropriate cash controls, i.e. receipts and reconciliation of sales receipts.
  • Responsible for opening and closing procedures.
  • Submit quarterly consignment sales check requests as needed.

Program Development

  • Execute all aspects of the online store and develop a program using social media marketing for the Austin Visitor Center.
  • Manage Amenity gifts for hotel and Visit Austin clients

Other Responsibilities
