Austin’s first major league sporting team has inspired a new energy, spirit, and camaraderie across the city, and it’s no secret that Austinites are thrilled to cheer on Austin FC at home and on the road. The buzz around Austin and its new team has also brought on a recent, national spotlight - U.S. Soccer will be making its debut in Austin with a special exhibition match between the regarded U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) and Nigeria at the brand new, state-of-the-art Q2 Stadium.

U.S. Women’s National Team at Q2 Stadium

On June 16, 2021, just three days before Austin FC’s home opener, the brand new Q2 Stadium and the city of Austin will host the reigning, four-time FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion U.S. Women’s National Team in an exhibition match versus Nigeria. Not only will this mark a historic first-ever match in the stadium, but it will also be the first time that either U.S. Women's or Men's National Teams play in the capital city. We can’t imagine a better opening event than welcoming such a decorated team to break in the field. Austin FC President, Andy Loughnane said it best, “Hosting the USWNT at Q2 Stadium speaks to the world-class nature of our city, our facilities, and the popularity of the sport in our region.”

Another of many firsts, the match-up against the Super Falcons will be the first time USA has ever challenged Nigeria outside of a world championship, and the third-ever exhibition match against an African country. Additionally, this will be the final international game before the USWNT Head Coach, Vlatko Andonovski, names the 18-player Olympic Team roster for the 2021 Olympic Games in Japan later this year.

Q2 Stadium

Q2 Stadium is truly one of a kind. The 20,500 seat soccer stadium features natural grass, a signature canopy that offers shade and coverage for all seating sections, and some of the most breathable seats in any major league venue in the world. No details were spared in making Q2 Stadium unique from other sporting venues across the globe. Fans will experience much more than great soccer, they’ll feel all aspects of the city from innovative technology, incredible food, fusion of cultures, and eclectic Austin design influences.
